Our Favourite Vegan and Vegetarian Cookbooks

November 16, 2015 By Jayne Rodgers 3 Comments

The trend for healthy eating shows no sign of slowing and there are some fantastic new books on the market to help us all cook exciting food while doing our bit for the planet too. It’s been a bumper year for vegan cookbooks and this list brings you the best of them so you don’t have to blow your mind browsing the ever-growing lists. Our own cookbook will be added to the list next year, by the way – hopefully it will make it onto our 2016 favourites!

Here we go, in no particular order – they’re all great.

Deliciously Ella: Awesome ingredients, incredible food that you and your body will love
Ella Woodward, aka Deliciously Ella, churns out fantastic recipes like nobody’s business – man, this gal is busy!  When she’s not on TV or in magazines, she’s writing ace cookbooks. They’re popular for good reason, great recipes, simply executed. Definitely worth checking out.

Oh She Glows
Another popular food blogger, Angela Liddon, aka Oh She Glows, has been sharing vegan recipes online for six years now, making her positively ancient in blog years. She’s all about family-friendly recipes, stuff you can make to share with your whole crew, whatever their eating habits.
Thug Kitchen Party Grub: Eat Clean, Party Hard
Thug Kitchen is a hugely popular – and very sweary – US vegan blog, supper club and all round bad ass lifestyle choice (haha, they’ll hate being called lifestyle – we’ll be in big trouble!) Their newest book, Thug Kitchen Party Grub – Eat Clean, Party Hard, brings fantastic recipes and obscenities together in one highly entertaining package.

Get The Glow: Delicious and Easy Recipes That Will Nourish You from the Inside Out
We had the pleasure of meeting Madeleine in the summer and, yes, we’ll have what she’s eating! She really does glow and hopefully you can too with her simple, tasty recipes.

Prashad At Home: Everyday Indian Cooking from our Vegetarian Kitchen
No list of cookbooks would be complete without some fantastic Indian recipes to tackle. Prashad is one of our favourite restaurants and their books, for obvious reasons, are among our go-to cookbooks too. They do a great job of demystifying Indian cooking so end up with dishes with that subtle ‘ooh, now what is that flavour’ sensation.
Keep it Vegan: 100 simple, healthy & delicious dishes
This is a super-cheap book (perfect stocking filler?) full of tasty recipes that are great for both newbie vegans and vegetarians and old hands looking for new ideas.

The Fresh Vegan Kitchen: Delicious Recipes for the Vegan and Raw Kitchen
If you’ve been to a festival in the UK recently, you may have seen these guys with queues stretching for miles from their Wholefood Heaven Buddha Bowl street food van. They’ve shared some of their best recipes in book form for us all to try, along with some great vegan cooking tips.

The Great Vegan Protein Book: Fill Up the Healthy Way with More than 100 Delicious Protein-Based Vegan Recipes Includes • Beans & Lentils • Plants • Tofu & Tempeh • Nuts • Quinoa (Great Vegan Book)
If we had a penny for every time we’re asked how we get enough protein, we would be very rich women indeed. This lovely recipe book is full of all kinds of interesting recipes that give even old hands like us new ideas.

There you go – our guide to 2015’s best vegetarian and vegan cookbooks. If we’ve missed out your favourite, let us know in the comments below. We’re *always* happy to try new recipes 🙂

3 of these went on my Christmas wishlist! I also heard Ottolenghi’s ‘Plenty’ is good?

We love Plenty! Sometimes the ingredients lists are a bit overwhelming, but once you’ve started building up a stockpile (and don’t get too precious about using every single one…) then it’s brilliant.
